Overnight we move from French to Spanish waters, our first day of many is in the Catalan port of Palamós on the Costa Brava.

We set off in a southernly direction, the first three miles are around the bay of Palamós. We find various artworks dotted around. It’s all completely flat, until we reach a pair of towers that date back to C13. One is now absorbed into the grounds of a restaurant, but the other still stands proud on the headland.
They represent the start of a splendid coastal walk, which winds around the rugged coastline, sometimes boardwalk, other times variously tunnels, across beaches or rocky headlands, until we reach Platja d’Aro in about three more miles.
We cover Platja d’Aro too, before turning round at a time chosen to get us back for 14:00 (aka lunch time.) This bay is more up-market than Palomós with many smart restaurants - based on the tablecloth principle.
As we return we remark on how many things we missed on the outbound, each twist and turn reveals something new.
The walk back is harder, we’re approaching noon-day sun by now since our longitude is almost back to Greenwich yet we’re on GMT+2. Nevertheless it’s a fabulous 14 mile trek, we even climb 930 ft in total, despite it being a costal walk.
Back on board a chilled beer is essential and most welcome before we assume our afternoon positions of sun-deck for Hubby and a shaded table nearby for me so I can get on with some work.
After an hour the pool beckons, along with sangria obviously! Later we’re dressing early to attend one of the two parties we’re invited to, the other is too early to go to. At the Seabourn Club event we are recognised as having recently passed 100 nights onboard, in fact it was in 2019 but this is our first Seabourn cruise since then. We’re treated to a bit of tango from the excellent Ukrainian dancers.
We plan to eat al-fresco tonight so after aperitifs at the pool-bar we remain pool-side to go to Earth and Ocean. We create a mini tasting event with five courses chosen from the menu - penne meatballs, scallops, Asian duck, bananas Foster, coconut creme caramel.
Showtime tonight is a double-bill - a lovely sunset followed by a pair of crazy cellists, astonishingly clever with a madcap wit too - very entertaining!
