Western Med 2022 - Day 7 - July 14

Sete is not a town with which we’re familiar. Yet another town considered the “Venice of …” because it has a few canals it is nevertheless a very attractive find. We set off towards the extensive port, only just so we get a flavour of the different areas, but quickly change direction and move on to the railway station, and on around a peninsula.

Sete’s notable feature is that the town lies between a large lake, Étang de Thai, and the sea, the lake being 21km long and 8km at its widest, we’re not going to do a circumnavigation so we cherry-pick a segment then head to the highest points, Whits Stones and Sant Clair, where the 1932 cross guards the Étang, to enjoy the views. The neat arrays are oyster beds, a massive industry in the area.

Returning past an old fort (no photos - operational military base) we traverse the town for a few blocks then return for lunch, a bit of work, pool and (later) mojitos!

Chef’s dinner is spectacular, yet we’re bemused with how quiet the MDR is, of course there are three other options, or maybe many people are eating ashore as it’s a late departure today?

The pre-sail-away is accompanied by dancing, whilst others, like us, enjoy the music and watch from a safe distance!
