Tenerife 2021 - Day 4 - Thursday 18/11

Not counting a of couple cruise-related stops, our first time in Tenerife was in a small town up the coast from Adeje, Playa San Juan, where our gardener, and dear friends, at that time had an apartment. We have a lot to thank Ernest and Shirley for.

We’ve driven there today to pay a nostalgic visit, marvel at how little it’s changed since that first stay 18 years ago, and then finally get a proper sit-down lunch. We enjoy a walk along the length of the promenade from harbour right back to their apartment block at the other end.

Looking back we see Abama resort - an incredible Ritz-Carlton golf resort - where we enjoyed the island’s only Michelin restaurant last visit.

The afternoon is spent on a another golf course - no we haven’t sold our souls to the golf god - it’s all about the view. Looking back down from above La Caleta we see over the links back to the nearest island, La Gomera, over which the sun sets if we were prepared to sit long enough.

That’s not an option today, maybe another day, instead we wander back down to La Caleta past a massive sports centre, and then commence the walk back to our hotel, arriving just in time to shower and dress for dinner and FaceTime back to Sheffield with friends over a very nice Chardonnay.

During our walk we’ve noticed that preparations for the coming Christmas season are progressing nicely.

Then it’s back to La Caleta again for dinner at a new one to us, Le Petit Bistrot, and Italian we scoped out on day one. As (almost) ever my snout doesn’t let us down, and the restaurant is splendid. We enjoy seafood croquettes and tempura prawn & courgette, duck and tuna, finishing with fondant pudding and tiramisu - both puddings are the best examples we’ve experienced.

A good view from the rear of our hotel, depending on haze Mt Teide is visible from the end of the corridor.
