UK 2021 - Day 02 - Monday 05/07/21

Just nine months ago we'd not heard of Mudeford Sandbanks, and now we've been twice. Notable for numerous reasons including hitting the national press recently when someone burned down two of the beach houses there, and also that they are possibly the most expensive real-estate outside Mayfair, £350,000 for a single room, no toilet or electricity, is going some!!

After breakfast we set off on the cliff-top, walking to the east, and pass through Boscome and Southbourne before turning left and heading inland to cross the River Stour and the walk along it's bank for a while, into Christchurch. It's very elegant along the water's edge where the Stour meets the River Avon, which we then follow until we can cross it.

Carrying on around the water's edge we make our way to Mudeford Quay, on the other side of Chichester Harbour, so need to take the ferry accross to the sandbank side. A quick walk around the spit, clearly seeing the Isle of Wight’s Needles, and it's time to have an overpriced pint and sandwich - captive audience and all that - before we commence the return journey.

We can now walk adjacent to the sea for a full six miles, starting first on the beach at Hengistbury head and later on the promenade, a continuously uninterrupted gentle curve around the bay.

Back at the hotel we notice that at least we've chosen a place with some notoriety!

Later in the afternoon weather drives us in from our balcony, so we do the very British seaside tradition of sitting in our room watching the rain, but enjoying a relaxing read or write too.

Drinkies with friends before dinner, it is lovely to catch up with old school friend Richard (although he’s not really old, just the same age as me!) and his Hubby.

And then it's Indian tonight. Our choice turns out to be a very good restaurant.
