Staycation 2021/03 day 12

I’ve always thought that Midhope is the ideal setting for Yorkshire’s version Midsomer Murders. There could be Lower Hope and even No Hope, it’s a perfect naming scenario, plus it all looks picture perfect. We park at Upper Midhope to start our journey today.

Earlier we’ve enjoyed eggs Benedict again, this must be the perfect breakfast I’m sure, certainly on holidays anyway. We do bits of work for a while hoping the rain will lessen, which it does eventually.

After building my now famous BLT we head off on our walk. We’re used to this route as it’s the country way to Fischer’s in Baslow so we drive it regularly, but walking it’s even more dramatic, the sweeping bend, dips and drops are spectacular even in the rain.

We turn off Mortimer Road at Wigtwizzle and head towards Broomhead reservoir then Bolsterstone where we enjoy our BLT. We’ve done seven miles and seen no-one until now, indeed in the entire walk we see only six people.

Then we are heading back, looking forward to getting the heating turned up in the car, as it’s so cold and wet. A great walk and a great pace, one of the advantages of sticking to roads is that our average is pretty impressive 3.92 mph over fractionally less than three hours of walking.

On our return we get stuck into work for a while, then afternoon tea and more work, when I discover an important reminder process has failed today for reasons yet to be resolved. I can only hope tomorrow I’ll work out why and what happened.

Whilst Hubby is playing through Mum’s Ivor Novello song book, I’m making brazed leek, to stuff into salmon then wrap in pastry. A shallot sauce and sugar snap peas are the perfect accompaniment.
