Friday’s standard breakfast is already perfect, therefore with “nul pointes“ for originality we enjoy scrambled eggs and smoked salmon on toast.

Hubby has a meeting today, and I also have loads of backlog, so it’s time to catch up on a few things, plus making lunch of course.
Having got the Industrial Revolution bug this week, we pick up from where we stopped yesterday and head up the River Porter branch alongside the Stocksbridge bypass, where in relatively recent history steel has played an important part.
Sheffiled’s steel history is a huge factor - since the mid 1800’s the sprung steel wire of umbrellas has been made in this valley for export the whole world over!
The going is blooming hard for the first few miles, as we head up the bankside opposite Stockbridge, but the views are great. It’s so hard, we don’t even make three mph on the first hour! We push on high over the bypass until we reach Midhope then turn off towards Penistone. We find a suitable place for lunch and enjoy a fabulous BLT sandwich.
Before long we're walking back along the Trans Pennine Way, very familiar territory. Finally we walk past the Wortley Top Forge industrial museum, site of many happy memories over the years.
Then it’s home just in time for afternoon tea, and an hours work before its time to start menu planning for next week, aided by Chardonnay of course!
Dinner tonight is halibut which is just begging for some extra taste so we are making a leek and mushroom risotto
