Caribbean day 2 - 06/01/19

The efforts that go into preparing a fabulous B-B-Q are challenging enough when it’s just one’s own back-garden. Add in a beach, half a mile of sea, and 450 guests, and it’s a whole new level of wow.

Our plan for today was slightly perturbed by the announcement in last night’s papers that it was Caviar in the Surf day today, at the lovely private Carambola Beach Club. Our planned walk, about 12 miles, was not required to end by any particular time, just do it at leasure then head back, now there’s a time pressure. We head south in the direction of the lovely sounding Turtle Beach, in fact the whole walk is lovely, the scenery changes as we twist and turn on the road. There’s no pathway, the terrain is not suited to it, just one nice road with a huge gully either side for catching faiing rocks and doubling as the storm drain.

Our walk goes up and down a bit, 200m is the highest, no prizes for guessing the lowest of course, and it’s not long before our calves are straining, maybe we’re a bit unfit? We follow the road right to the end, to find not just the beach, but also a Hyatt, a coconut farm and some lovely housing. We just turnaround and head back, mindeful of the time, but still manage to miss the opening gambit. Just as we’re nearly there the heavens open for five minutes delivering a welcom rest from the 30 degrees, although the humidity rises soon after.

Back to the barbie, Seabourn make a pretty fantastic job of theirs, starting by serving caviar and champagne actually in the water, and then they deliver an excellent grilled selection of meats and all the usual salads to accompany them. I manage two lobster tails to make up for not having any last night.

Meanwhile, there’s staff galore to bring drinks, and the recreation team have got the boats out to play, along with the donuts and banana, not that we went near them this time.

We take the tender back home, and head for deck five aft, our favourite space for jacuzzi and mojitos of which we managed a few. A very lazy afternoon is called for, but I also do some work on my newly created dancers auditions system, before transferring to deck eight for raspberry daiquiri. After a while we head home and order caviar and champagne - the boy decided we didn’t need a glass, so sent a bottle instead!

We decide to try for Earth and Ocean again, this time with more success, and we enjoy the al-fresco experience as much as the old style Patio Grill. It’s now slightly more formal, with full service and slightly more sophisticated food but it remains a relaxed affair. We both enjoy pasta, lamb shank and tarte tatin.
