Antarctica 30/01/18 Day 18 - Chilean fjords

Allegedly today is cruising the fjords, but in fact that starts around 20:00, before which we’re in the open seas West of Chile. The wind force is only seven today but the swell is huge so we’re having our roughest day so far.

We’ve opted for waking on deck five once again, at least the sun shines intermittently in between the gale, rain and hail, and there was only one lady also attempting a walk, although increasingly photographers gather on deck five aft to photograph the albatrosses and petrels continuously following in our wake. I made another short video of our walk a we were thrown around, but it took well over 24 hours to upload, so the point was a bit lost by then.

Once our ten miles were done we went straight down to the galley where a Market Kitchen was underway, this is a spectacular display of food served by the army of chefs, it’s a wonderful showpiece culminating in all staff lining the dining room to rapturous applause.

We’ve been planning our next holiday since we embarked and a few things came together today so it was necessary to spend some time researching, hampered by the very slow internet. Looks like we’ll be going Greek this summer.

A lazy afternoon ended with dressing for dinner early as there was a ballroom session at 18:30. It started with the ship’s professional dancers executing a wonderful tango, before the floor was opened up to all comers. Hubby and I both spent most of our time on the floor with various ladies from the company and Colorado passengers Darla and Marsha with whom we’ve been chatting quite a lot. I managed good rhumba and cha cha cha, excellent waltzes plus one extremely credible Argentine Tango, with much credit for the latter to my old mucca Ms Lily Amy.

We continued on to dinner with the Colorado Girls, then back up to the show lounge for a new turn, and American comedian. He was a bit funny in parts but mostly it wasn’t our kind of humour, quite a lot just wasn’t even funny to Us Brits. It’s not the first time we’ve experienced this problem, but it was probably the most painful instance. It’s certainly fair and truthful to say I hope we never ever come across him again.
