Another sea day, another dollar - well, another mile anyway. Or thirteen as it happens. After breakfast we headed up to deck nine and started our laps, unsurprisingly it was a bit cooler than yesterday as we’ve forged Southward through the night and are now in the late 40s degrees south of the equator, roughly the equivalent of Northern France, so no longer experiencing Mediterranean climes.
In fact as the day wears on it’s a lovely blue-sky experience again, much better than our last time doing this trip, but still cool out of the sun. As we’re waking the crew are doing a regular fire drill, the announcements are alarming, but of course we know it’s all made up. The dead body that emerged later made us smile, slung over a fireman’s back like a sack of potatoes!
We manage to complete our 10 miles in one go, before breaking for photo sorting and facebooking, helped along by a couple of Bloody Marys. Soon after we head to Collonade and enjoy our lunch outside under the radiant heaters, it was a perfect scenario.
After lunch we decide to do a few more miles, this time on the horseshoe decking that spans the aft of the ship and on both sides too, but it is necessary to turn around, there’s no clear way of doing circuits. On another trip it would pass through the aft sun-deck and jacuzzis, on this one it passes through the huge space reserved as a boot room. We clock up and additional theee miles before deciding the jacuzzi is more appealing, so head there, and get engrossed in talking to various people both in the tub and in the swimming pool.
While changing for dinner afterwards we succum to caviar for the first time this holiday and it was lovely! Then it’s down to deck four for dinner, a perfect score tonight, with tuna carpaccio, aubergine soup, veal fillet and coffee soufflé for me, Cæsar Salad, lobster fettuccine, lamb loin and chocolate fudge sundae for the Hubby.
We finished the evening with a virtuoso violinist - he was exceptional.
