At sea. Captain van der Wal delivered precisely what he promised - glorious clear skies, beautiful flat-calm blue ocean and air temperature of 18 degrees. I would have been happier if he got the last bit wrong, but in the sun it's just gorgeous so no complaints really.

Breakfast was the opposite of yesterday, a sudden rush meant we have an enforced leisurely delivery, but at sea no-one minds! Then we hit the decks for our first constitutional, port side basking in sunshine, but starboard was a bit chilly. After 12 laps hubby went upstairs to find a spot in the sun as I had to attend a cooking demonstration - eggplant rollatini gratinée, will be tried out on our veggie friends before too long - after which I joined him on the loungers (different ones, that really would be pushing it with the conservative cousins.)

An hour later and I had to go to another demonstration - more veggie, this time mushroom, spinach and feta strudel - before we finally chose our lunch-time Chardonnay and settled down to sandwiches, chicken curry and people watching on the back deck.

Another twelve laps beckoned and then we repaired to our verandah for a while to enjoy the port-side sun streaming in as we sail north past Baja California towards San Diego.

On our final twelve laps we enjoyed a glowing orange sunset across the Pacific Ocean.

We really enjoyed the violin and piano in the lounge adjacent to our restaurant this evening and were delighted to see how many people chose to stop a while and listen in. Last nights opera was poorly attended, so it was good to see this renewed interest in the classics.

For many tonight is "last night" and in our restaurant a table of eight seventy and eighty year-old rockers was getting very raucous. We're pleased they had a good evening but really, we didn't need to hear about their sex lives, and suspect our fellow diners didn't want to either. Happily they were well in advance of us and normality resumed before too long.

Around 04:00 the pilot drew alongside to board and then guide us into San Diego.
