We feel obliged, once per visit to Hambleton, to walk the circuit of Rutland Water. Although it’s only just under 17 miles, it’s also 2 miles from the hotel back to the “mainland” so we’re looking at around 21 depending what else we bolt on.

The railway bridge we’re used to seeing has been replaced by a very modern offering.

Dinner is a fabulous collection of lobster, foie, guinea fowl and beef..

Our evening ends with Amaretto and stargazing!

How long this can continue remains unclear as we get older, and one thing is certain, I’ll never get Hubby on a bike again, after that unfortunate affair in the Yukon, well it was more Klondike I suppose.
Before all that we have a wonderful breakfast on the terrace, even though the promised sun is missing, it’s warm enough to enjoy perfect eggs Benedict.
We discuss the errant mosquito that made us close the windows and turn on the air conditioning - enough to subdue the insect and ensure it’s moments on this dominion are limited.
Followed by a wander round the garden.
Then we have a leisurely stroll around the reservoir, not even attaining 3.5 mph but it was just great, and we even did it backwards (for us) by going clockwise for a change.
On route, it’s good to see a (seemingly) pop-up marina at the campsite, loads of people donning wetsuits but no-one actually in the water yet, maybe doesn’t open until midday?
Later on we pass the half-submerged church that is closed today for a wedding.

As we return we pass a field where this clarinetist practices, the effect is sublime as he plays Albanoni's Adagio and the music echoes around in the silence.
We arrive back at Pims o’clock so go straight down to the pool for a lovely swim and reading / writing session.
I order a few bits of tech we need at the office, send a load of missives and generally interfere with a few matters because I can.
Soon it’s time for champagne and canapés on the terrace.
