South America 2023 - day 08 - Monday 13/03

Our morning stop is just "hangin' around the river" as we park up and only Zodiac tours are allowed out. We pass a school who are putting on a performance just for us, we stop to watch before moving on (the ship provides suitable reparation to the community.)

Then we're down a tribituray looking for anything interesting - we see sloth, monkeys, woodpeckers, eagles avocado vines and others, but the main experience is just being in the tranquility of the Amazon jungle.

Later we move on to Parintins which is probably the largest town in the area. Last time we went to a performance of the Boi Bumba local dance show, so we swerved that in preference of just a wander aound town, although to be honest there's not many redeming features.

We're soon back onboard. The local scouts have been providing guidance around town and their smiling faces are rewarded by a trip out to the ship before we leave.

We have a lovely caviar sailaway accompanied by the trio, while we spend the time in the pool feeding our faces

The evening goes to plan and we're soon down on deck 5 aft in our “private” jacuzi enjoying champange before it's time to shower and dress for dinner, not forgetting to stop at Patio Bar for Davide to make a Chambord champagne cocktail - Kir Imperial - for us.

Dinner tonight is in the small restaurant TK Grill which has ties to Thomas Keller, an egotsitic American chef who's parallel in the UK would probably be Gordon Ramsey. This is a bit love/hate for us since we preferred it in its previous incarnation of Restaurant 2, which was far more suited to European tastes, whereas the grill is very American. Obviosuly we don't have sufficient sway to change this, so we make do and enjoy our visit anyway. We have an amuse of cauliflower, caviar and citrus, then lobster thermidor, New York strip (sirloin in English) and finally coconut cake - all fabulous.

We intend to go to the show, but we take our time at TK and don’t make it. Goodnight!
