I know I was an horrible child, I have no doubt, but it was half a century, possibly even longer, ago and I’ve quite forgiven myself for that. i haven’t forgiven the (seems like) hundred or so on today’s flight, pretty much all of them screaming after four hours of enforced iPad time. So what did we do in those circumstances eh? OK as well as not having an iPad I didn’t have international flight available either so it’s difficult to answer that, but there must have been some other form of amusement available back then? Maybe children were made if different stuff in the ‘olden days?’

If you’re reading this you’ll know where and why we’re on our travels, sneaking a quick four-nighter in just ten days after we’ve got back from our wonderful cruise.
It’s quite a relief to get away, the dreadful weather in Yorkshire is quite gloomy, I’ll not say depressing because it doesn’t bother me like that, but I know what temperature I prefer - mid twenties here we come again! The drive to MAN is easy, we arrived in plenty of time, only to learn the flight is running late, but that’s fine as we both have plenty of work so get on for a couple of hours, before finally boarding.
Turns out we’re parked just about as far away as possible - Captain says it’s a twenty minute drive to the runway, which we timed and quite concur, but we do make good time and we’re not so far behind schedule when we land.
As mentioned the flight is awful, something we’ll have to get used to I suppose, the only highlight being catering chez nous, cheese, onion and pickle sandwiches on fabulous Yorkshire multi-grain followed by our last portions of Simnel Bakewell - must make another one soon - it’s just wonderful!
With only one suit-bag between us we’ve ordered a little car, quite a cute Yaris, but getting it requires a 68 minute queue, not a positive welcome to Tenerife, busy as previously mentioned it’s half term! Our drive is only half an hour and we’re queuing again, this time at the check-in for Hard Rock Hotel, an odd choice for us you might think, but of course there’s a reason.
In fact the room is ultra-modern and rather nice. The bathroom is part of the room, just the shower and loo are separate, the balcony is nice and overlooks much of the gardens, the beach club and the second tower. Views into the distance are of Costa Adeje one way and the hill-side the other. We’ve never had a wristband room-key before, and it also charges back to our account from the restaurants and bars - super modern!
We wander up to a local Italian restaurant for what turns out to be excellent pizza, of course we’ll get to know this place more soon, but it’s a great first find, accompanied by a lovely Montepuciano d’Abruzzo.
After dinner we walk up to the Rosa shopping centre, taking a peek as we pass, then making a good loop around the Riu and Roca hotels before returning to ours. We wander around the gardens and pools for a while before hitting the sac.
