Caribbean 2022 - Day 13 - Monday 24 Jan

It’s fortunate we did the private island last week since todays repeat visit is cancelled. In the early hours we were paralleling Caribbean Princess and Rotterdam. Up for sunrise, as we’re still on Florida’s time (I’m not, I didn’t change my phone) approaching Half Moon Cay.

It’s such a relief to report a non-covid problem for a change, just a normal, natural cruise ship vs weather issue, unsurprisingly the exceptionally strong winds won and we had to endure another day at sea, pool, jacuzzi, etc … you know what happens!!

Being good boys we still manage our 10 miles, I even do two hours of work, although the internet speed and complex routing makes it quite tedious and slow - I’m reduced to writing code in a text editor manually without any tools, prompts or graphic interfaces. Kids these days wouldn’t have a clue!

I’m not sure sea-days are for everyone, there’s been some funny behaviour observed amongst our fellow passengers! I know it takes all sorts, can’t argue with that, but we seem to have more than our fair share of them onboard this week.

The pool is especially rocky this evening, not that the ship is, just a sympathetic harmonic of wind and sway I suppose, but it’s wonderful being thrown all over - love it!!

Somehow we manage to get extra cocktails and watch the sun set for our jacuzzi.

Meanwhile tonight’s sunset is particularly spectacular.

Instead we have a minor crisis when our canapés fail to show up. We’re not worried, but the concierge is mortified and arranges for more to be delivered, unbeknownst to us. By this time we’re showering and dressing so have put the DND out.

Our poor cabin stewards are desperately trying to tell us, but we can’t hear the phone from our verandah where we’re repaired with our Chardonnay, in the end they get into an adjacent room and signal that we have a delivery - such dedication!

Canapés are:
Fig on red pepper
Tuna and sesame sauce
Spring roll on sweet chili sauce

It is Gala night on Nieuw Statendam, that means we don our DJs once again. We’re not attending the third showing of Cantaré, we only saw this show two nights ago.

After a wander and even do a photo shoot in the photography gallery that we won’t purchase, then we go for dinner at Pinnacle. Our wonderful server Tasha has an amazing tale, as she yesterday served lunch to the President of HAL and the CEO of Carnival, parent company of HAL, Seabourn, Cunard and many others. We’ve seen the latter before on an inaugural cruise but never the former.

Pinnacle, our home from home:
Clothesline candied bacon
Grilled lamb chops
Crème Brûlée

Our wine choices of Lea Selises and Boom Boom are just perfect, we try to explain to Tasha about Basil Brush!!
