Nostalgic Sheffield on Boxing Day 2021

Excellent Boxing Day if rather different to usual.

Our poorly car needed a new windscreen, so we walked from Autoglass on Attercliffe Common.

Up the common, past my old bank (still standing against all the odds) passing the old Banners department store, through “t’wicker” as the students rag-mag was know, up into town past “Hole in the Road” and the Cathedral and Cutler’s Hall.

Passing City Hall and the sad John Lewis (Cole Brothers) now closed, and on to the hospitals and university. Almost to Crookes before descending through Upperthorpe and Netherthorpe where a bouldering project now entertains, remembering the Kelvin Flats, once the enormous housing project infamous the world over.

Finally to Kelham Island for lunch next to a Bessemer Converter. The weirs of the river Don are many on this route.

Returning for the car we pass Bessemer House on Carlisle Street, which is rather satisfying.
