UK 2021 - Day 04 - Wednesday 07/07/21

They say "It’s an ill wind that blows nobody any good" but today’s rather cool and extremely breezy day heralds a day of change for the good.

Starting with birthday shopping! Anyone who knows me will also know that I detest shopping, to the point that I won’t do it - excepting for the time approaching Hubby’s birthday, but this year being rather busy and not Leeds based, I didn’t actually do much, so I take him to a few clothes stores so he can chose stuff he actually likes, far more productive than me choosing for him - great new model, must repeat this in future years!

We return past the hotel to dump bags in the car and wander on along the inner roads as far as Boscombe before turning round into the headwind to struggle back to the pier, where a dear friend from London awaits us. She’s come all this way just for lunch, so it’d better be good!

We continue into the headwind all the way to Branksome Beach and the restaurant there, ably managed by the same old school friend we met earlier in the week, so I know it will be good. Indeed we enjoy traditional fish’n’chips as only the seaside can deliver - absolutely scrummy, cheers Richard.

On our return we pop into the Russell-Cotes museum & gallery. Last time we came it was closed so we were keen to investigate, and wow what an amazing place. The Russell-Cotes were hoteliers in the area (the Bath Hotel just next door actually) and they built this incredibly eccentric house in their later life.

As avid travellers they scoured the world for art and curios and then built a gallery at the side of their house to display it all, fully intending to gift the lot to the city, which they did. It’s an intriguing collection and we all loved the experience. Our friend came back for afternoon tea on the terrace of our hotel, just a minute away, before returning to London.

We took another stroll, just to ensure that the steps built up a bit, before returning for Chardonnay on the balcony.

More friends for dinner, these we’ve not seen since we were last in Athens so there’s a lot to catch up on at Crab, the seafood restaurant next door to Neo where we went last night.
