By 09:00 we’re in a car being driven to the airport. Not quite the end of our holiday though!
We check our bags in, causing some consternation because the dive bag is so huge (never had any problems before!) and one of our suit bags won’t stand upright. So we actually check in two bags, then have to find out-sized luggage and check in the naughty bags.
With so much techno-weight in the rucksack, we decide to store this at left luggage for the day, then jump on a metro did the forty minute journey into central Athens.
We do a convoluted route around the base of the Acropolis and balk at the cost of a drink - €5 for a frozen lemonade, and no you can’t buy water - so don’t bother. We have a destination in mind, the King George Hotel, where we meet up with friends Ruth and David for a lovely lunch - excellent in fact, it’s great to catch up, thanks both!!
Then we head out on a planned route around the area, visit s few previously seen attractions, and the thunder starts. We head back to a lovely museum Ruth has recommended and while away a very happy hour with artifacts and relics whilst the storm passes over. By the tine we’re done, it’s beautiful blue skies again, and we walk around the Plaka with many tiny streets, before heading back towards the Metro station and the real end of our holiday!
