Yesterday was such a long day in the office that we didn't feel like packing when we got home as was the original plan, instead a bottle of Merlot somehow became open whilst cooking dinner, and the evening was a lovely relaxing start to our holiday instead.
Arising with our usual work alarm gave us plenty of time to do a little last minute ironing and then pack everything for a 10:00 departure for Manchester Airport. Whilst on route we received a text to say our first flight, to Amsterdam, was delayed, and would not make the connecting flight. KLMs app couldn't tell us what that meant so we headed straight to the AF/KLM desk to find out. Fortunately the excellent ladies there had moved us onto a later flight via Paris on AirFrance and all we needed to do was inform our pickup car of the new time, at a cost of €11 for some reason.
The flights themselves went without any further problems and we arrived later than expected but without complication, if you don't count the arrogant and omni-texting Incredible Hulk I had to constantly elbow-wrestle on the second flight, in Nice by 20:00. Unfortunately as we stood by the carousel the inevitable happened - we were the last people present and a single case very similar to ours was going round in solitary circles. Once again the incredibly efficient AF ladies were able to call the stupid passenger who doesn't know his own case, and 20 minutes later we were repatriated.
Then we were whisked us to our hotel on the harbour-side in Monte Carlo in less than 30 minutes.
We took a stroll round the harbour before settling on a simple Italian dinner, and further gawping at the mega-yachts, their owners and the armies of staff shuffling, polishing, waiting-on, intimidating as the rest of the world watch.
We also found the literally brand new Seven Seas Explorer birthed in the cruise terminal hosting its glamorous inaugural launch party, presumably getting ready for a "shake-down" cruise, as its official launch is next week.
