San Diego. Today is a "turnaround" day for the ship, meaning it's the end of a cruise and the start of the next the one. For us it's just another port day, and we head off across town to find the world famous San Diego zoo. They lead the way in all sorts of sustainable projects with stunning success in many areas, although sadly their most recent news was actually losing a very rare Rhino, but they are trying to save animals, not kill them.. Accordingly, the entrance fee is a eye-watering but it's all for a great cause.
The zoo is set amongst the hills in a huge site and we spend four hours trekking all over to see many great sites. The polar bears are a personal favourite, but there are loads of great creatures.
We return via Bilbao Park, built in 1912 for a World Expo with fabulously created buildings, just in time to catch Veendam ready to sail South again.
This evening we attend a welcome drinks reception in the Neptune Louncge before heading to our restaurant. It is a great pleasure to find that no one else has booked, and we are on our own with the MD and five staff to attend our every need. Bliss.
